Memory Care from the Perspective of One Living with Dementia
Speaker: William Nelson, BBA
Q3 Enterprises LLC

When business executive Barney Nelson was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia, he switched gears to become a speaker and advocate for those living with dementia and their families, sharing his and his wife's experiences to broaden people's understanding of what it is like to be diagnosed with and live with dementia. In this highly interactive session, Barney will answer audience questions and provide feedback on how real senior housing dementia marketing programs resonate with those facing memory care options.

Barney Nelson was a successful business owner, until he started noticing a persistent tremor in his hands and experiencing weird nighttime hallucinations. The cause? Lewy Body Dementia, an incurable, progressive neurodegenerative disease similar to Alzheimer's. Rather than hide in the shadows, Barney decided to draw on his sales and marketing background to step forward and shine a light on the lived experience of dementia. Now he brings his upbeat humor to national caregiver conferences, sharing his experiences with the disease and candidly answering the questions people are often afraid to ask.

Barney Nelson is a retired successful entrepreneur and business owner who currently helps his wife with her dementia products company, and travels the country to advocate for dementia patients and their families. Vicki Quick (moderator) is Barney's wife and care partner, in addition to running her own company for dementia care products. She will handle audience Q&A and also answer any care partner-specific questions.
